Pchum Ben, a cherished time in Cambodia, is a season when families gather to honour ancestors and celebrate togetherness. This year, we are proud to share a story that truly embodies the spirit of family, healing, and belonging at the heart of this holiday.
A young mother in our program had endured immense challenges, including emotional abuse, financial stress, and criticism from her own family. She felt completely isolated, fearing she and her baby would never truly belong. In a brave decision, she chose to separate from her partner and embrace single motherhood. With the support of Mother's Heart, she has not only found a path to healing but is also strengthening the bond with her own mother, who is now lovingly helping to care for her granddaughter, Pebbles*.

This Pchum Ben holds a special significance for them. They are returning to their hometown, where Pebbles will meet her extended family - aunties, uncles, and cousins - and celebrate her first birthday with them!
The journey home was made even brighter, thanks to our partner, Box of Hope. Their mission is to bring simple joy of receiving a gift to children in need. Because of their generosity, Pebbles has already received her first birthday present as they prepare for their trip. This mission extends to the entire family. Box of Hope provides essential items and toys not only for young recipients like Pebbles but also for the young mothers in our care who are still legally children themselves (under 18). These acts of kindness show both mother and child they are valued, included, and cared for by their community.
Stories like this remind us why partnerships and family bonds are essential, and why coming together during Pchum Ben is deeply meaningful.
